Welcome to the official site for the town. To begin the school year, Bethany College holds an All Campus Picnic behind Old Main. All students, faculty and staff are invited.Halloween is celebrated in the Town of Bethany with the usual Trick or Treat in daylight hours, 6 to 7:30 p.m., followed by a party for all at Bethany Memorial Church's Weimer Fellowship Hall. For Bethany residents and those employed by the college, there are Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinners held at Benedum Commons. Another event during the Christmas season is the arrival of Santa Claus in Bethany on Christmas Eve. Santa comes to Bethany riding on the Bethany fire truck and visits each of the children. The early arrival of Santa is sponsored by the Bethany Woman's Club. On the last Saturday in April , the Darline Nicholson Breakfast takes place. All the women of Bethany are invited. The event is in honor of the Bethany College senior women who are graduating that spring. The menu of strawberries and rolls is traditional. A noted female speaker gives an informative and inspirational speech. During the course of the breakfast, the Aleece Gresham Award is awarded to a senior woman for her leadership and community service. Also, male students serve the meal. In May the college's seniors have Baccalaureate and Commencement services. If weather permits, the Commencement exercises are held outdoors on the green behind Old Main. Usually the main speaker is nationally known and of great interest to everyone.
Summer brings forth baseball and softball for the children of
Bethany. The
games, which begin in May and proceed through summer, are played in the
town park. Also, soccer is another sport available in
Bethany. Practices and games take place in the fall and early
spring on fields adjacent to the Campbell Mansion.
